First Steps Nursery was the first purpose-built nursery established in Irvine. Since 1996, the nursery has developed into one of the most highly regarded and sought after nurseries in the local area. The nursery is registered with the Care Inspectorate and North Ayrshire Council and has consistently received positive reports and feedback from both inspectors and families.
First Steps Nursery offers high quality learning and childcare experiences to children aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. Children at First Steps are cared for within a homely and supportive environment where they are encouraged to learn and develop through play and positive interactions with staff and each other. First Steps nursery values the benefits of both the indoor and outdoor environment and strives to create engaging and stimulating opportunities for play and learning across the play rooms and gardens.
First Steps Nursery is owned by Alison Latta and Debbie Simmers, who are also the owners and founders of Woodland Outdoor Kindergartens in Glasgow. The nursery is managed by Jenn Low with Diane Roberts and Kathleen Cook as Depute Managers. The team of 18 fully qualified and 1 trainee staff have a variety of work and life experiences that ensure we offer the best possible early years experience for children. All our staff are registered with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
The nursery works in partnership with North Ayrshire Council to provide fully funded places to children aged 3 to 5. Children aged 3 to 5 can receive up to 1140 hours a year of fully funded childcare - this equates to 30 hours per week term time, or 23.75 hours per week over 48 weeks. Applications for funded places should be made by completing our registration form. Please apply as soon as you have decided on First Steps Nursery for your child's funded nursery place as places are limited and priority is given to children already attending the nursery.
Fantastic Nursery. My LB who is nearly 4 has attended First Steps since he was a baby at 6 mths old. The lovely ladies have looked after him (amazingly well) all the way thro his nursery journey from the 0-2 baby room, 2-3 room and now in the 3-5 room. Hes currently doin his anti preschool year and loves it just as much as he ever has. He will be doing his pre school year here too. It's great knowing he's well looked after and loves going. The hours that the nursery are open also suit my work which is another great bonus. My new baby LB will be starting his First steps journey after Easter
BRILLIANT NURSERY! I can’t thank the manager and staff enough for making my little boy feel comfortable! He’s settled in so well and to see him walk through the door and enjoy being there just puts our minds at ease!
