First Steps Nursery

September Newsletter 2022

A big Welcome Back to all our children and their parents and carers. Also a big First Steps Welcome to all our new Children and parents and carers. We are all looking forward to a new School Year and settling into a “New  Normal Life” at First Steps.

Staff Changes

We have a new permanent member of staff in our 2 - 3 room  Sophie Campbell who has completed her 3 month trial with us.

Term Time for funded children

I have printed off and put in each child’s poly pocket a copy of the school Term Time days according to whether you selected Term time of 38 week (As the schools) or 48 weeks.  If your child is 38 week (3 Full Days funded) and you require childcare during any of the school holidays please speak to a member of staff or email myself at [email protected] or telephone 01294 212632.

Bringing of Toys into the nursery

In line with Government guidelines we cannot allow any toys to be brought into the nursery from home.

Medicines

For the foreseeable  future we will not be administering any medication to children other than in an emergency.

Lending Library

We are once again offering a lending library  to children in the 3 - 5 room.  Every week your child will be able to choose a book to bring home.  We would ask that you read this with your child and write a short review on sheet provided.  This is to encourage language and literature with your child.  Please do not worry if the book gets torn or lost just let us know so we don't keep asking you for it.  There will not be a charge for damaged books.

Peripatetic Teacher / Additional Support Teacher

Our peripatetic teacher this year remains Mrs Pauline Walker. Pauline has already been in the playroom and has enjoyed meeting all the children.  Pauline will be coming back into the nursery after the October holiday and will be supporting both staff and children in their learning experiences.

Pick up / Drop Off Times

I must ask that if you have any issues that require addressing you email them to us at [email protected]. or give us a call on 01294 212632. We will answer these as quickly as possible.  We are unable to admit anyone to the nursery at this present time other than staff and children.  I apologise for this and hopefully this will change in the near future.

Collection of Children

Can I ask parents/guardians to ensure that their child is collected on time at the end of their Session.  If you are unable to collect your child yourself please ensure who ever is collecting them is aware of pick up times.  The nursery closes at 6pm and I would ask that all parents arrive no later than 5.55 pm.

Facebook Page

We  have a  closed Facebook page which is  regularly updated with information from the nursery and photographs of the children enjoying some of our various activities. This is only available to parents/ friends of the nursery. If you do not wish photos of your child to be included on this and you have not made this clear on your permission slips please inform a member of staff. Thank you to everyone who comments on our page.

Personalisation of Clothing

Can I please ask parents/guardians to ensure your child’s name is clearly marked on all items of clothing/footwear that comes into the nursery.  With over 100 children using First Steps we cannot keep track of all items lost in the nursery but if your child’s name is clearly visible we can ensure lost items are returned to their owners.

Can I also ask that the children have slip on soft shoes to change into as they are not yet at the stage of tying their laces and this is a very time consuming task for staff.

Labelling of Children’s food in Baby Room

Can we please ask parents to label your child’s food as this is a fantastic help to staff

Nursery Uniforms

Polo shirts, Sweatshirts, Cardigans and jackets can all be ordered in the nursery if you wish them.  Please email June Reid at [email protected] to place an order.
